City of Rochester Provides Reminders About Outdoor Parks and Recreational Sites

ROCHESTER — The City of Rochester wishes to provide residents with some reminders regarding outdoor parks, playgrounds, trails and recreational sites during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City of Rochester encourages residents to practice social distancing when using outdoor parks and recreational areas. Rochester’s outdoor parks, playgrounds, trails and recreational sites remain open, but the city is NOT wiping down playground equipment, picnic benches or any other surfaces in recreational areas.

Residents should be aware of the possible spread of COVID-19 and practice caution when visiting parks or city trails for exercise, including maintaining at least 6 feet of distance between yourself and others when outside and not participating in team or contact sports such as basketball, football, softball or soccer. Cookouts are also not permitted in any Rochester parks, until further notice.

Families should practice social distancing with their children and follow guidelines from state and local health officials:

  • Residents should not gather in groups of 10 or more in accordance with Gov. Sununu’s emergency order on March 23.
  • Maintain 6 feet of distance from other people at all times.
  • Avoid touching surfaces including playground equipment, benches or other sports equipment that are handled by others.
  • Do not participate in activities involving physical contact or the sharing of equipment such as team and contact sports.

COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus, has been declared a Global Pandemic by the World Health Organization and has moved Governor Chris Sununu to declare a State of Emergency in New Hampshire and President Donald Trump to declare a National Emergency.
