Order Includes Nail Salons, Barbershops, Gyms, Tattoo Parlors, etc.
WHITMAN — Town Administrator Frank Lynam, in conjunction with the Whitman Board of Health, announces that an emergency order has been issued for all non-essential businesses in the town to close on Monday, March 23 at 5 p.m., and remain closed until the order is lifted.
Non-essential businesses include, but are not limited to:
- Hair salons
- Barbershops
- Nail salons
- Day spas
- Massage and body work establishments
- Tattoo, piercing and body art establishments
- Aesthetics establishments
- Tanning salons
- Gyms and fitness centers
The order does not include businesses such as supermarkets and pharmacies, gas stations, convenience stores, liquor stores, and restaurants open for take-out and delivery.
With guidance from the Town’s public health officials, along with information received from state, federal and global public health agencies, the Town has been assessing activities, businesses and service sectors that pose the greatest risk of spreading the novel coronavirus during this health crisis. Community members and business owners should anticipate further measures in the near future in addition to those announced today.
“We recognize the hardship this order will have on our local business owners and residents, but we feel it is in the best interest of our Town as a way to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus,” said Eric Joubert, Chairman of the Whitman Board of Health. “We are grateful for the community’s continued efforts as everyone does their part during this difficult time.”
Board of Health officials also remind all residents to practice and promote the concept of social distancing during this time, including avoiding gatherings with groups of people, refraining from shaking hands, and keeping at least six feet away from those around you whenever possible.
The Town of Whitman has implemented a new COVID-19 news blog where residents can find up-to-date information on the Town’s reaction to the public health crisis. Click here to access the page.
