Wenham Fire Department Extinguishes Fire at Single Family Home

WENHAM — Fire Chief Stephen Kavanagh reports that the Wenham Fire Department responded to a one-alarm fire at a single family home on Monday night. 

Wenham firefighters arrived at the scene at approximately 11:30 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found that a fire had engulfed the garage, office and living room of a single family home.

After an aggressive interior and exterior attack, firefighters were able to contain the flames before they reached the second floor and attic.

The family had already escaped the building when firefighters arrived.

Hamilton and Beverly Fire Departments assisted at the scene, as well as an ambulance from Atlantic Ambulance. Crews from Essex and Danvers Fire Departments covered Wenham’s stations while its crews battled the flames.

Firefighters were able to successfully extinguish the flames, and had cleared the scene by 3:30 a.m. The building was watched until 8:00 a.m. to ensure that flames were completely out.

The home was significantly damaged by heat, smoke and water, but is not a total loss. The family residing in the home has been displaced as a result of the incident.

No injuries were reported.

“This incident was a great example of departments working together seamlessly to extinguish a working fire, and fortunately no one was injured during this incident,” Chief Kavanagh said.

The fire remains under investigation by the Wenham Fire Department and the State Fire Marshall’s Office. Fire officials do not believe the fire appears suspicious at this time.
