ROCHESTER — City Manager Blaine Cox is pleased to announce that a public information session and mobile questionnaire assistance event for the 2020 Census will be held later this month as part of the city’s Complete Count efforts.

ROCHESTER — City Manager Blaine Cox is pleased to announce that a public information session and mobile questionnaire assistance event for the 2020 Census will be held later this month as part of the city’s Complete Count efforts.

WHEN:

Wednesday, March 18 from 3:30-7:30 p.m.

WHERE:

Rochester Public Library, 65 South Main St.

WHAT:

Representatives from the United States Census Bureau will be at the sessions to provide information and answer questions, as well as help people submit their census response online.

In mid-March, residents nationwide will begin to receive invitations to complete the census.

The census impacts how much federal and state funding is given to communities for various projects in categories like education, transportation and public health. In Fiscal Year 2016, for example, New Hampshire benefited from over $3.7 billion in federal spending based on data derived from the 2010 census.

The census also impacts the state’s representation in Congress and the Electoral College, as well as residents’ representation in state and local government. The data are also used in the creation of legislative district boundaries.

“I encourage anyone with questions about the census or who might be looking for help to attend this event,” City Manager Cox said. “This is just one way the Complete Count Committee is working to ensure that every single person who lives in Rochester is counted.”

Computers will also be available at the library for those who wish to fill out their census questionnaire online from March 12 until the end of the census response collection in July.
