RAYMOND — Superintendent Tina McCoy is pleased to announce the success of a new piece of classroom technology designed to enhance student learning.

Ben Ramsey, a science teacher at Raymond High School, has been using the Promethean Board, an interactive whiteboard, since the beginning of the school year. He is one of three teachers using the board in their classroom.

“I use the Promethean Board on an everyday basis for things such as projecting the daily agenda, projecting potential solutions to problems that I or students have generated, viewing video clips and more,” Ramsey said. “I am grateful that the district allowed me to be one of the first teachers at the high school to have a Promethean Board installed.”

This is the second smart board that Ramsey has piloted in his classroom. Though the first was great, he said the added features of the new board has been a boon to learning.

The Promethean Board allows Ramsey to write on a digital chalkboard and save copies of the notes to his Google Drive that he can share with students. He’s also able to overlay different layouts like grid or graph lines, graphic organizers or a usable ruler.

Other apps built into the board are a timer, a camera, a spinner, a galley of images and an annotation tool.

“Technology like this in the classroom is a huge benefit for both students and teachers, allowing them to engage further with their learning,” Superintendent McCoy said. “Ben is doing a great job showcasing just how valuable this can be in the classroom.”

The plan is to double the number of boards in the in the building next year.
