Maynard Fire Department Extinguishes Early Morning House Fire

MAYNARD — Chief Anthony Stowers reports that the Maynard Fire Department extinguished a two-alarm house fire early Thursday morning. 

At approximately 5:26 a.m., Maynard firefighters responded to a reported building fire at 8-9 Front St. Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire in the rear of the building and were unable to gain access to the front due to items blocking the building’s entrance.

Due to rapid spread of the flames, crews immediately began a defensive attack using aerial ladders and hand lines from outside of the building. A second alarm was called for and the fire was declared under control at approximately 7:23 a.m., but extensive overhaul was required.

No one was in the building at the time of the fire. A property representative confirmed that the building is unoccupied.

No firefighters were injured.

Crews from Acton, Concord, Sudbury, Stow, Boxborough, Lincoln and Hudson responded to the scene to provide mutual aid. Pro-Ambulance, the Department of Fire Services Rehab Unit and chief officers from Stow, Sudbury, Northborough, Concord, Shrewsbury and Hopkinton also assisted as part of a regional response.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Massachusetts Fire District 14 Fire Investigation Team and members of the Massachusetts State Police Fire Investigation Unit.
