RAYMOND, N.H. — Superintendent Tina McCoy and Principal Laura Yacek are pleased to announce that third graders at the Lamprey River Elementary School recently took part in the school’s first ever “book tasting” event.

On Thursday, Feb. 20, students in Andrea Elliott’s class were greeted to their room set up like a restaurant, complete with tablecloths, centerpieces made up of flower petals and battery operated candles.

The room also had a variety of character trait “menus” that students could browse, helping them to select a book to read.

“Students were given the unique opportunity to ‘taste’ new genres of books, discover character traits within the stories, and use illustrations to understand the story,” Principal Yacek said. “The event was a huge hit with the students, and it was great to see them embrace reading and learn about the different types of books that are out there.”

Students also investigated non-fiction text, and had the chance to snack on goldfish crackers.
