Newington Fire Department Celebrates Promotions of Three Members

NEWINGTON — Fire Chief E.J. Hoyt is pleased to share that three members of the Newington Fire Department recently received promotions.

NEWINGTON — Fire Chief E.J. Hoyt is pleased to share that three members of the Newington Fire Department recently received promotions.

Lt. Patrick Moynihan was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief; Acting Lt. Brian Berghorn was promoted to Lieutenant; and Kayla Reno was promoted to a full-time firefighter after serving as a part-time firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

A promotion ceremony was held on Thursday, Feb. 13. Town Clerk Laura Coleman swore all three into their new position.

“I’m extremely proud of Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Moynihan, Lt. Brian Berghorn and Firefighter Kayla Reno for earning their new roles,” said Chief Hoyt. “The Newington Fire Department is fortunate to have highly qualified candidates step forward seeking to support our mission while advancing their dedication to a career in the fire service. I wish them all the best as they take the next step in their careers.”

Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Moynihan

Assistant Chief Moynihan has been with the Newington Fire Department for 14 years.

Along with his numerous Fire Service Certifications, Assistant Chief Moynihan is a Nationally Registered Paramedic and is currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science program in Fire Service Administration.

Assistant Chief Moynihan has introduced innovative and operational improvements in his role assisting Chief Hoyt throughout the past four months during which the Assistant Chief position was vacant.

Lt. Brian Berghorn

Lt. Berghorn has been with the department for approximately three years.

Prior to his promotion, he held the position of Acting Lieutenant. He is also a military service member, serving as a Staff Sergeant in the New Hampshire Air National Guard Fire Department in the role of crash and rescue firefighter.

He holds various certifications and is continuing his pursuit of further education.

Firefighter Kayla Reno

Firefighter Reno has been with the department for approximately the last three years as a part-time firefighter EMT while also serving part-time as an EMT for the York Ambulance Response. 

She began her career at the Rollinsford Fire Department where she served as a volunteer firefighter EMT for nine years. She holds various certifications and is currently pursuing further education.

Recently, Firefighter Reno participated in Ice & Cold Water Rescue training.
