RAYMOND — Superintendent Tina McCoy and Principal Bob Bickford are pleased to announce that Iber Holmes Gove Middle School students are participating in a Spirit Week celebration this week.
Over the course of the week, students will participate in various activities and dress-up theme days, and will receive points based on their participation. The administration will host a cookout in the spring for the grade with the most points.
“This is one of the most exciting weeks of the year,” Principal Bickford said. “This serves as a great way to engage students, help them celebrate their school spirit and just have fun.”
Dress-up themes for the week include:
- Lounging pants and pajamas day on Monday, Feb. 17.
- Character Day, where students dress up as their favorite character or Netflix show, on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
- Opposite day, where students dressed opposite of how they normally dress on Wednesday. Feb. 19.
- Time Travel Day, where students can dress up like the past or future on Thursday, Feb. 20.
- Color Day, where fifth graders will wear red, sixth graders will wear yellow, seventh graders will wear blue and eighth graders will wear green, on Friday, Feb. 21.
Each day features an activity as well:
- On Monday, students decorated the hall or pod area outside their classroom to promote school spirit. The winners will be chosen on Wednesday.
- On Tuesday, there was a rally featuring musical chairs and a teacher lip sync battle.
- On Wednesday, there was a scarecrow decorating contest. The winner will be announced on Thursday.
- On Thursday, there will be a Friendship Lunch, where the grade that has the most dancing will be awarded 50 points.
- On Friday, students will attend a student and faculty basketball game. Points will be awarded to those with the most school spirit and cheering, as well as the best bleacher section decorations.
A “Question of the Day” will also be featured in the morning announcements each day and the first homeroom to answer correctly will receive points.
Students will also be participating in the Pennies for Patients fundraiser over the course of the week. Money raised will be used to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), and its research and support of blood cancers programs.
“There is truly something for everyone this week,” Superintendent McCoy said. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the events so far and can’t wait to see what the rest of the week has in store.”
The week is organized by the Student Council and Karen Franco, a special education case manager who serves as the group’s faculty adviser.
