Plymouth Fire Department Responds to Two Near-Simultaneous Fires at Separate Locations 

PLYMOUTH — Chief G. Edward Bradley reports that the Plymouth Fire Department responded to two fires in town that occurred less than an hour apart Tuesday morning.

At 6:16 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to 107-R Cranford Road in the area of the Myles Standish State Forest for a report of a house fire. Plymouth Engine 1, Engine 3 Tanker 2, FF172 and FF173 responded to the scene.

Because the fire was not reported until the sun came up, the home had already burned to the ground when firefighters arrived. The home also had no water supply or hydrants, which hindered the water available to firefighters.

The home is a summer home and was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The scene was cleared at approximately 9:30 a.m.

At 6:46 a.m., Engine 6, Ladder 2 and Engine 7 were dispatched to 5 Truman Avenue in Manomet for a report of a house fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found an active fire and worked quickly to extinguish it. 

The eight residents of the home had escaped prior to firefighters’ arrival and no injuries were reported. 

An initial investigation showed that the fire began in the floor joists above the drop ceiling in the basement and burned undetected for some period of time.

The house is considered a total loss due to heavy fire and smoke damage throughout the home. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents. 

Crews from Bourne provided mutual aid at the Truman Avenue fire. Firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 11:40 a.m.

Station coverage during both incidents was provided by the Kingston Fire Department.

No firefighters were injured at either scene.

Plymouth Fire Department investigators and State Troopers assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office are on both scenes investigating the cause of each fire. The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and Massachusetts Environmental Police are also assisting on the scene of the Cranford Road fire.
