Loring Elementary School Hosts One World Festival

SUDBURY — Loring Elementary Principal Sara Harvey and Assistant Principal David Gaita are pleased to share that Loring Elementary hosted their second annual One World Festival for community members.

On Sunday, Feb. 9, Loring Elementary’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) organized their annual One World Festival to celebrate cultural diversity and traditions from around the world. At the festival, families were invited to set up booths to represent a country of their choice.

“The PTO, once again, went above and beyond for the Loring community,” said Principal Harvey. “Thanks to all of their hard work and organization, our community members had the ability to immerse themselves in different world cultures through food, games, performances and more. Events such as this one provide an exciting way for us to teach our students about cultural diversity and respect while getting their whole family involved.”

Loring Elementary students and families volunteered to host booths to represent a total of 15 world countries at the event. Each country had a booth that showcased foods, clothing, cultural facts and artwork to highlight the country’s culture.

Featured booths included Armenia, China, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Nepal, Peru, Puerto Rico, Russia and Scotland.

The festivities also included four performances by community members and Loring Elementary students. Performances included an Irish dance by Innishfree Dance School students, traditional Chinese music performed by Ms. Lu Lu, a Scottish sword dance performed by fifth-grader Isla Kerekes and Indian classical music performed by fifth-graders Dev and Vivek Chakravarty.

Visitors who attended the festival were given passports and invited to visit each country’s booth. After visiting each showcased country, passport holders were given a sticker to represent their journey around the world.
