NEW LONDON — Superintendent Winfried Feneberg and Principal Stephen Paterson are pleased to announce that Kearsarge Regional Middle School (KRMS) nurse Amy Holobowicz has been named the New Hampshire School Nurse of the Year.
Holobowicz was named as the 2020 Nurse of the Year on Wednesday, Feb. 12 by the New Hampshire School Nurses Association. The honor is given annually to a school nurse who has shown a commitment to both their school community and the community at-large.
“Nurse Amy combines a depth of knowledge and experience as a nurse with a caring and welcoming approach to children,” Principal Paterson said. “She made valuable differences in the academic and home lives of our students through programs like Return to Learn concussion management and Kearsarge Kares, which provides food and resources to needy families.”
Holobowicz began working at Kearsarge Regional Middle School five years ago and has been a registered nurse (RN) for approximately two decades.
“I am so honored to be recognized this way by the New Hampshire School Nurses Association, and by the community here at Kearsarge,” Holobowicz said. “I have received so much support from my co-workers and the district, and am incredibly grateful. This is a great community to be apart of.”
In her role, she often speaks with students and staff about different health and safety topics, such as concussion awareness, immunization compliance, vaping and diabetic service dogs.
Along with medical assistant Jennifer Cahill and substitute teacher Jeff Maguire, Holobowicz has also volunteered with the Kearsarge Kares food pantry to deliver food to families over the summer.
“Being a school nurse is not just about daily medications, band aids, and handling emergencies big and small,” she said. “It’s about being a caring person to all of the people you come in contact with.”
A ceremony recognizing Nurse Holobowicz’s achievements will be held on Saturday, April 4 at the Waterville valley Resort Conference Center, 1 Ski Area Road, Waterville Valley. The event is put on by the New Hampshire School Nurses Association.
