Two Rockland Middle School Students Arrested After Fight During Dismissal 

ROCKLAND — Superintendent of Schools Alan Cron reports that two Rockland Public Schools students were arrested by the Rockland Police Department after a fight that occurred during dismissal Thursday afternoon.

Students at the John W. Rogers Middle School had early dismissal Thursday, at approximately 12:30 p.m. During dismissal, two eighth grade girls began fighting. As this was during dismissal, a number of faculty and staff members and the Rockland Police School Resource Officer were already outside and attempted to intervene, following the school district’s protocols and procedures as they pertain to student-on-student violence.

Additional Rockland Police units were called to the scene and during the course of the response and investigation, the two students were arrested. The school district will conduct its own investigation and will likely issue disciplinary measures consistent with its student handbook.

No weapons were involved in the fight, and Superintendent Cron is thankful to the faculty and staff for following the district’s procedures and to the Rockland Police Department for its rapid response to ensure public safety.

While attempting to break up the fight, Principal Beth Bohn was pushed by one of the students but was not injured.
