“Beer in the Barn” to Bring Craft Brews to Rochester Arena

ROCHESTER — Recreation Director Chris Bowlen and Rochester Farmers Market Manager Vicky Poland are pleased to announce that their organizations — along with Rochester Main Street — have partnered to host the Beer in the Barn craft beer festival this spring.

Beer in the Barn will take place Saturday, May 9, from 1-4 p.m. at the Rochester Ice Arena, 63 Lowell St. The proceeds from the event will benefit the Rochester Farmers Market as it enters the 2020 season. Tickets, which are available now, cost $30 for full access to the festival and $5 for those attending as designated drivers.

All access passes include a limited-edition event sampling glass, plus access to all of the craft beer vendors and the food court area. Designated driver passes include access to the event, complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and food court access.

Vendors that have become Farmers Market staples will be taking part in the festival, along with 29 craft brewers from New Hampshire and throughout New England that will be spread across the arena’s expansive floor area.

In 2019, the Rochester Farmers Market and Rochester Recreation partnered to establish the arena as an alternative venue for the market in the event of inclement weather. Now, the arena will host a kickoff to the 2020 market season with the inaugural Beer in the Barn festival.

“This partnership has been incredibly rewarding, and we’re extremely excited to expand our relationship with Rochester Recreation by working together to make this festival a reality,” Poland said. “This will be a great way for everyone to come together to enjoy craft brews and support the market at an event with the same community focus that makes the market so special.”

The Rochester Farmers Market is held on the Rochester Common each Tuesday from June to September, and features dozens of local vendors — including farmers and local artisans — as well as a broad range of local organizations.

“The relationship we have with the Rochester Farmers Market is a natural fit,” Bowlen said. “We’re looking forward to this festival as a way to strengthen that partnership and provide invaluable support for the market as it looks to continue expanding its impact on the Rochester community.”
