WRENTHAM — Principal Lisa Mobley is pleased to announce that three King Philip Regional High School seniors have been recognized with Boston Globe Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
The annual competition recognizes students for their work in arts and writing. Pieces could be entered into 17 art categories, 11 writing sections and an additional option that challenges the scope of the general art and writing categories. Students submitted their work in December and winners were announced in late January.
A committee of visual and literary arts leaders judged submissions. Awards are broken down into three categories, Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mention, and given to those students whose work best exemplifies originality, technical skill and personal voice or vision.
The King Philip honorees who earned recognition in the Drawing & Illustration category, are:
- Senior Annabelle Paradis: “Flow” (Honorable Mention) and “Pondering” (Honorable Mention)
- Senior Emily Homes: “Stoneybrook” (Honorable Mention)
- Senior Melanie Veilleux: “Melly The Menace” (Silver Key) and “Lobstah” (Honorable Mention)
“I’m excited to see three of our King Philip students receive accolades for their beautiful artwork,” said Art Teacher Cathleen Zeigler-Carneiro. “Annabelle, Emily and Melanie have shown a tremendous amount of dedication to their art. I commend them for taking the time to enter this competition and am pleased to see their work being recognized.”
Senior Melanie Veilleux’s piece “Melly The Menace” will be featured in an exhibit at Tufts University.
Additionally, Veilleux, as a Silver Key winner, will be invited to an awards ceremony on Saturday, March 14 at the Cohen Auditorium at Tufts University in Medford.
