WHITMAN — Superintendent Jeffrey Szymaniak is pleased to share that the Whitman-Hanson Regional High School Quiz Bowl Team will compete on the WGBH High School Quiz Show on Saturday, Jan. 25.
The Whitman-Hanson Quiz Bowl Team, students Catherine Cronin, Adam Everidge, Michael Doucette and Benjamin Turner, with the support of alternates Nicholas Femia and John Molisse, will compete against 16 other schools at the WGBH Studios in Boston on Saturday. The team’s first opponent will be Boston Latin School.
The competition will test students’ knowledge in math, science, civics, literature, history, current events and more. To prepare for the show, the Whitman-Hanson team practices once per week and has scrimmaged against teacher teams and teams from other area high schools. The team also participates in other weekend state tournaments throughout the year.
“The WGBH Quiz Show is a fun competition for our students to be a part of and we know they are looking forward to the event,” Coach Julie Giglia said. “WHS is one of only a handful of schools to make it to the competition, so our team is very proud of this accomplishment.”
The Whitman-Hanson Quiz Bowl Team is coached by Giglia and Christopher Szkutak and has existed at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School for over 10 years.
The first match takes place Saturday at 4 p.m. Tickets to be in the studio audience are free and are available at http://bit.ly/whquizshow. All community members are welcome to attend and support the Whitman-Hanson team.
This is the 11th season of the public television academic tournament. The show is hosted by Boston media personality Billy Costa.
The show will air on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 6 p.m. on WGBH-2.
