ROCHESTER — Principal Christine Hebert is pleased to announced the start of a medieval-themed math fluency challenge at the East Rochester Elementary School over the next month.
After kicking off on Jan. 13, students will now compete in math-themed challenges throughout the school week, with the ultimate goal of being “knighted” once they’ve successfully completed all of them.
“Each year, the math fluency challenge is an exciting way to engage students and have fun as they become proficient in their math skills,” Principal Hebert said. “I applaud the work done to set up the event and look forward to celebrating the achievements of students in the coming weeks.”
On Thursday, Feb. 20, the Brotherhood of the Arrow and the Sword, a medieval reenacting group, will visit the school during an assembly to celebrate the achievements of the students during the event.
A family night will be held that day from 5:30-7 p.m., which will have math-themed board, card and dice games. The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) will have a concession stand and a station where parents can learn how they can support their students with their math fluency.
This year’s event was organized by the school’s math teachers: Emilee Somers, Wendy Powers and Kathy Wright.
