WRENTHAM — Superintendent Paul Zinni is pleased to announce that the King Philip Music Association has been named the 2020 recipient of the Massachusetts Music Educators’ Association “Music Advocacy Award.”
The Music Advocacy Award is presented annually to outstanding individuals, organizations or community leaders who have demonstrated advocacy for music education in Massachusetts schools.
The award may be given to any individual, organization or community leaders who qualify under the following criteria:
- Is active as an advocate for music education in the school or community
- Shows strong leadership in the community and good rapport with teachers, parents, students and administrators
- Candidate’s efforts have led to a financial commitment for music education by the school system and community
- Candidate’s efforts have led to improvements in curriculum, budget or enrollment in the music program
The award will be presented during the All-State Music Conference, scheduled for 11:15 a.m. on Friday, March 6, at the Seaport Hotel in Boston.
“Since its inception in 1980, the KPMA has worked tirelessly to support our music program and we are elated to be able to recognize publicly that tradition of service and excellence,” King Philip Regional High School Band Director Michael Keough said. “We hope a delegation of KPMA board members, administrators, school committee members and music teachers will attend the conference in March to recognize and honor the collaborative work that has taken place over the last 40 years to contribute to the enduring legacy of excellence synonymous with the King Philip Music Program.”
The King Philip Music Association is an organization of all families presently in the King Philip Music Program, as well as alumni students and parents. The organization was formed to promote music education in the entire King Philip school district, to support all music programming and to work cooperatively with the school administrators.
