Bedford Police and Fire Departments Respond after Car Crashes into School Bus

Other Drive Transported, No Students Seriously Injured

BEDFORD — Police Chief Robert Bongiorno and Fire Chief David Grunes report that the Bedford Police and Fire Departments responded this afternoon after a car crashed into a school bus.

Rescuers responded to 1 MacIntosh Road shortly before 4 p.m. Upon arrival, police and fire officials found that a Dodge sedan had crashed into the rear of a yellow school bus and was lodged under the rear bumper of the bus.

The bus was transporting 13 Bedford elementary school students home for the day, and there were 14 total people on-board including the driver. Two students were evaluated for injuries that are not believed to be serious. No one from the bus was transported, however the driver of the Dodge, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

All parents have been notified of the crash by the Bedford Public Schools. Arrangements were made for parents to pick up their children at the scene of the crash. Bedford Police, Fire and Bedford Public Schools officials facilitated reunification efforts without further incident.

The driver of the Dodge sedan will likely be cited for several motor vehicle violations, however the incident currently being investigated by the Bedford Police Department.

Armstrong Ambulance also responded to the scene to provide mutual aid.
