Wakefield Police Investigating Hoax Incident

WAKEFIELD — Chief Steven A. Skory reports that the Wakefield Police Department is investigating after a call for possible barricaded subject in a home was determined to be a hoax and an attempt to elicit a large police response.

At 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Wakefield Police received a call reporting that someone was inside a residence on Elm Street and that people were in danger and possibly injured.

Wakefield Police responded alongside mutual aid officers from the Reading Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police. A perimeter was established, and Wakefield Police alerted resources from the Northeastern Massachusetts
Law Enforcement Council.

Police officers, however, were quickly able to make contact with the residents inside the home, and it was determined that there was no danger.

Police are investigating this incident as a hoax, “swatting” incident.
