York County Chiefs’ Association Encourages Eligible Firefighters to Take Hybrid Fire Officer I & II Course

GORHAM, Maine — The York County Chiefs’ Association encourages all eligible firefighters to earn Pro Board Fire Officer I & II Certification.

The York County Chiefs’ Association, in concert with the Presumpscot River Valley Fire Academy, is hosting a hybrid Fire Officer I & II course beginning in January 2020.

The application deadline to sign up for the course is Friday, Dec. 13, and classes will begin in January 2020. Classes will be held at Cabela’s in Scarborough.

“Professional certification is not only important for one’s own development, but it improves the organization and the service as a whole,” President Roger Hooper said. “We hope to see a large pool of candidates from the York and Cumberland County Fire Service community complete this course and earn certification.”

The Fire Officer I & II course is a hybrid of on-line learning combined with classroom time. It meets all the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1021 Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications.

Students who successfully complete the course, including all course work and testing standards, will be allowed to sit for Pro-Board Fire Officer I & II examinations to earn national level professional certification.

Instructing this course are:

Chief Nate Schools of the Buxton Fire-Rescue. Chief Schools holds Executive Fire Officer certification from the National Fire Academy.

Deputy Chief Ben Harris of the Goodwins Mills Fire-Rescue. Deputy Harris holds a master’s degree in Education and is the Principal of Bonny Eagle Middle School in Buxton.

There is a course fee of $500, which includes all course materials.

Applicants must email a recommendation letter from a Chief or supervisor, a cover letter or a letter of intent and their most up to date resume to nschools@buxtonfr.org.
