Armstrong Ambulance to Host Self Defense Course for EMS Providers
ARLINGTON — Armstrong Ambulance Service will host a self defense course for EMS providers and firefighters tomorrow, in order to help those first responders remain safe while serving their communities.
WHEN:
Tuesday, July 30, at 9 a.m.
WHERE:
Saugus Public Safety Building, 27 Hamilton St.
WHAT:
Following the recent assault on a Boston EMS provider, Armstrong worked to develop a part of its continuing education program that focuses specifically on providing its staff the skills they need to defend themselves in the field.
The program covers situational awareness for EMS and fire personnel, with an eye toward the possibility that a confrontation could arise with a patient or bystanders.
“Our EMS providers regularly insert themselves into potentially volatile situations with the sole goal of helping patients in need,” Armstrong CEO Rich Raymond said. “We want to ensure that they have all of the skills they need to do their jobs effectively, while also protecting their own safety and well being.”
The training course will address on-scene safety and security, including recognizing cues given by patients or bystanders that indicate the possibility of an assault or danger, as well as appropriate defensive tactics providers can take and the legal obligations of their roles.
