Rowley Water Department Establishes Temporary Interconnection With Georgetown
ROWLEY — The Rowley Water Department announces that it has established an interconnection with the Georgetown Water Department.
The interconnection began on July 9 and will remain active on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in order to augment Georgetown’s water supply as it redevelops one of its water sources. Georgetown’s project is expected to be completed by mid-August, at which point the interconnection will cease.
While Georgetown Water is expected to be able to largely meet its water supply needs, it has requested Rowley’s assistance in augmenting its supply during those peak usage hours. The interconnection will have no impact on Rowley’s water quality, nor will it affect customers’ rates.
“We have a great working relationship with our colleagues at the Georgetown Water Department,” Board of Water Commissioners Chairman Mark Emery said. “When the need arises, we’re happy to step up and be a good neighbor — just as we both have in the past — while they do critical work to enhance their infrastructure.”
The two departments have established supplementary interconnections in the past, including in the 1980’s when Rowley had to construct a new source well to alleviate problems with an existing one.
