Bedford, N.H. Police Assist in Arrest of Local Man After Chase, Barricaded Standoff

BEDFORD, N.H. — Chief John J. Bryfonski reports that the Bedford Police Department assisted state police yesterday in the pursuit and arrest of a local man who allegedly fled from police and barricaded himself inside his truck.

GEORGE RILEY, 39, OF BEDFORD was charged with Operating after Certification as a Habitual Offender, Reckless Conduct and Disobeying an Officer.

At 5:09 p.m. on Monday, June 24, Bedford Police responded to a report that RILEY was actively evading police outside of Manchester after being stopped for drug related activity. Initial reports indicated that he was armed with a firearm.

State Police pursued RILEY south on Interstate 293 to Nashua and back north to Bedford. Bedford Police attempted to end the chase with the deployment of spike strips, but RILEY drove around them, briefly driving into oncoming traffic.

RILEY barricaded himself inside his truck in the area of Oak Drive and Glenn Road, prompting the Bedford Police Department to issue a shelter in place to nearby residents out of an abundance of caution at approximately 8 p.m. RILEY was taken into custody at approximately 8:50 p.m. with the assistance of the Southern New Hampshire Special Operations unit.

RILEY was refused to meet with a bail commissioner and was held at the Valley Street Jail Tuesday night pending arraignment. He is scheduled to be arraigned at Hillsborough Superior Court North today at 1 p.m.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
