Armstrong Ambulance Takes Part in Medford High School’s Credit for Life Fair
ARLINGTON — A member of Armstrong Ambulance’s team took part in Medford High School’s second annual Credit for Life Fair last week.
The event on Friday, April 5, gave Medford High School and Medford Vocational Technical High School juniors a chance to play the part of young adults responsible for balancing their personal budgets. Students were assigned a career based on their individual interests, along with a corresponding salary, before being tasked with managing a month’s worth of theoretical bills.
Armstrong — represented by HR Generalist Michael McCusker — was one of several businesses and other organizations that volunteered to participate in the event. The fair was designed to help students build a hands-on understanding of the real-world responsibilities that come with paying for housing, transportation, education, luxuries and other expenses.
McCusker was stationed at the Health and Dental booth, which was a required stop for all students at the fair. Students were given three health plan options to choose from, and McCusker explained the pros and cons of each plan and reviewed how the plans would fit into students’ budgets.
“I was glad to participate in this program and help high school students understand all of the different factors that will contribute to their financial situations as they get older,” McCusker said. “This was a great event, and I enjoyed interacting with students and working with them to help them become better informed about healthcare decisions.”
The experience demonstrated the correlation between education and career choice, and helped students better realize how those decisions ultimately dictate their financial flexibility as adults.
