Chelmsford Police Arrest Two after Investigation into Abuse at Group Home

CHELMSFORD — Chief James Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department arrested two now-former employees of a group home after an investigation showed that they allegedly battered and abused a cognitively disabled adult.

Evidence presented to and gathered by Chelmsford Police Detectives showed a pattern of abuse by the two employees on a 50-year-old non-verbal resident of the the group home, located on Harding Street.

As a result of the investigation, DANIEL MAINA, 41, OF TYNGSBOROUGH and JENNIFER NGANGA, 60, OF LOWELL were arrested by Chelmsford Police.

They were each charged with Assault and Battery on a Disabled Person and Abuse by a Caretaker.

“The evidence gathered during the investigation showed a clear pattern of physical abuse against a victim who could not defend himself or report his abuse at the hands of the very people charged with his care and well-being,” Chief Spinney said.

The group home is operated by Northeast Residential Services.

Both suspects were held by Chelmsford Police and are scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at Lowell District Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
