Andover Health Division Nurse Earns Public Health Nursing Award Ahead of Her Retirement

ANDOVER —  Director of Public Health Thomas Carbone is pleased to announce that Andover Public Health Nurse Jane Morrissey was recently honored by the Massachusetts Health Officers Association (MHOA) with its Public Health Nursing Award.

The award was presented at MHOA’s Annual Conference on Nov. 14 in Falmouth. It’s given annually to the public health nurse who has demonstrated exceptional dedication in carrying out the public health mandates of a regional or local municipal agency.

“Jane is someone who cares deeply for all of the residents she cares for, and she’s not afraid to advocate for what she believes is right,” Carbone said. “She has the ability to step back from a situation and think through how to address it. She thinks critically, and can make every resident understand that they are important to her.” 

The award is a timely one, as Morrissey officially retired on Wednesday, Dec. 12, after 20 years of service to the Andover community.

During her career, she helped to develop a first-of-its-kind shingles vaccination program for Andover residents, with the help of a grant from Andover Home for Aged Persons.

She has also organized countless health clinics and managed the Andover Health Division’s annual flu immunization clinics for the community. She also developed a group of volunteer nurses who have helped support those clinics in countless ways.

“We will miss Jane and her dedication to the community,” Carbone added. “We are proud of all of her accomplishments, which will leave a lasting legacy that will ultimately make Andover residents healthier for years to come. We all wish her a happy and healthy retirement.”
