Lynnfield Center Water District Announces Results of Special District Meeting
LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield Center Water District reports that voters last night approved funding to study the feasibility of supplementing or sourcing all of the district’s water from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) or another source.
The District Board of Commissioners withdrew and indefinitely postponed its proposal to construct a greensand filter treatment plant, which would have helped to alleviate the water discoloration experienced by a portion of district customers.
Article three, which was proposed by a ratepayer, was withdrawn as well, while article five was approved with an amendment to study the possibility of sourcing all water from the MWRA or supplementing the water supply with water from the MWRA. The study will evaluate a potential direct connection to the statewide system, or a connection via a neighboring community.
Article three had initially proposed supplementing the water supply with MWRA water.
The combined feasibility study will cost no more than $250,000.
An amended article four, which proposed providing home filters for customers affected by the discoloration issue and funding for a study of a filtration plant, was rejected by voters.
“I’m grateful for the thoughtful approach that our district members took in approaching the questions before them last night,” Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Constance Leccese said. “I am hopeful that we can build on last night’s productivity and continue our efforts to best serve our district.”
While the greensand filter treatment plant proposal did not move forward, residents are reminded that they may be eligible for the district’s home filter rebate program, which provides a rebate up to $200 for the purchase and installation of an in-home water filter.
