Threatening Social Media Post Under Investigation at King Philip Regional High School

WRENTHAM — Superintendent Paul Zinni and Principal Lisa Mobley report that the King Philip Regional School District and the Wrentham Police Department are investigating a threatening Snapchat message allegedly posted by a student.

The suspect has been identified and at this time there is not believed to be any danger to the school or the greater community.

At approximately 8:45 a.m., school officials at King Philip Regional High School were made aware of a Snapchat message that was being circulated among students Monday morning. The message, appearing to originate on the account of a student, depicted a photo of a male teen holding what appears to be a rifle and text warning people not to go to school Monday.

School officials immediately notified the School Resource Officer and an investigation was launched.

The student was quickly identified and was pulled out of class Monday morning by police.

No threatening or dangerous items were located at the school.

Disciplinary action may be issued pending the completion of the investigation. At this time, the matter remains under investigation.

Parents and the students and staff in the school were notified of the incident and school will go on as scheduled today.

“I want to commend the two students that brought this issue to the attention of our staff at the high school,” Superintendent Zinni said. “They should be proud of themselves and we encourage all parents to talk to their children about what they would do if they found themselves in a similar situation.”
