Rockland High School Celebrates Manufacturing Month
ROCKLAND – Principal John M. Harrison is pleased to announce that Rockland High School students had an opportunity to explore career pathways in October as part of Manufacturing Month.
On Tuesday, Oct. 23, students attended a presentation by Dean Rizzo, the Executive Director of the South Shore Workforce Development Board. Rizzo brought in a representative from Zildjian Company – a Norwell-based cymbal manufacturer – who spoke to students about manufacturing at the company.
The presentation came as part of a partnership with the South Shore Workforce Development Board, a working committee that includes representatives from area manufacturers, educational institutions and industry associations who work collectively to address the industry’s’ workforce needs. Throughout the month, the group hosted a variety of programs and events at area schools, including RHS, to reach out to students and promote career pathway opportunities in the dynamic and growing manufacturing sector.
Additionally, science teacher Angelina Armstrong took students on a field trip to Framingham State University to attend a forum called “Technology, Careers, and You,” where industry professionals from the area shared what is happening in their respective fields and their career paths. At the forum, students learned about the importance of dreaming big, taking risks and making mistakes as they navigate their careers.
“These events were a great opportunity for students to learn about the diverse career opportunities available to them,” Harrison said. “It was great for students to hear from professionals about the success they’ve had locally, and I’m grateful that our students had the chance to participate in an immersive event like the forum at Framingham State.”
