Rockland Police Arrest Man Who Barricaded Himself in Residence

ROCKLAND – Chief John Llewellyn reports that the Rockland Police Department arrested a man last night who fired shots at a family member and then barricaded himself inside his residence.

RICHARD BLAIKIE, AGE 68, OF ROCKLAND is charged with:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
  • Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
  • Assault in a Dwelling, Firearm-Armed
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
  • Disorderly Conduct

On Friday, Nov. 9, at 4:20 p.m., Rockland Police responded to a residence on Chestnut Circle for a report of shots fired.

Responding officers discovered that a man, later identified as BLAIKIE, had fired shots at a family member with a handgun and then barricaded himself inside the home. The shot did not hit the family member and no injuries were reported.

Officers quickly set up a perimeter around the home to secure the area, and the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council SWAT team arrived on scene to assist.

Police remained on scene for several hours until a family member was able to speak to BLAIKIE over the phone and convince him to surrender.

BLAIKIE was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, released and taken to the Rockland Police Station for booking. He was then transported to the Plymouth County Correctional Facility pending his arraignment at Hingham District Court.
