Ipswich Police Investigating After Motor Vehicle Strikes Pedestrian

IPSWICH — Chief Paul Nikas reports that the Ipswich Police Department is investigating after a motor vehicle struck a pedestrian this evening.

At approximately 4 p.m., Ipswich Police received a 911 call that a person on Central Street, at the intersection of Mineral Street, had been struck while in the crosswalk.

Upon arrival to the scene, police learned that a group of youths were on Central Street about to cross. As a 13-year-old from Ipswich stepped into the crosswalk, a car traveling north on Central Street failed to stop and struck him.

The victim sustained injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening and was transported via ambulance to an area hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, a 35-year-old man from Rowley, remained on scene. He was cited by Ipswich Police for Failure to Yield for a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk.

The incident remains under investigation by the Ipswich Police Department, however police do not believe speed or alcohol played a factor.
