Kearsarge High School Robotics Team Earns Governor’s Cup at Regional Competition

NORTH SUTTON — Principal Robert Bennett is pleased to announce that Kearsarge Regional High School’s robotics team took home the Governor’s Cup following a competition earlier this month.

On Oct. 12-13, Kearsarge’s Blood, Sweat and Gears team participated in the FIRST Robotics Competition at Plymouth State University. There, students tested their skills in “Power Up” — a game that required robots to maneuver blocks onto balance scales to tip weight in their favor.

Competing members at the event included team captain junior Aaron Thayer, senior Jared Fortier, sophomores Jacob Cardillo and William DelGiudice, and freshmen Luke DelGiudice and Kyle Goodwin. (Seniors not present, but who are on the team are Madison Neal and Nathan Henderson).

Following matches against 18 other teams, Blood, Sweat and Gears’ student-designed robot qualified to move onto the second round of the competition, where six alliances competed for first place.

As the winning alliance, the three seniors on Kearsarge High School’s team earned a tuition-free semester at 12 of New Hampshire’s universities and colleges, including the University of New Hampshire, Keene State College and Plymouth University.

The team, which was first created in 2004, is led by pre-engineering and computer science teacher Chris Spooner and made up of approximately 15 students in grades nine through 12. This is their first time winning the Governor’s Cup.

“This was a tough competition and we were up against a lot of great teams,” Spooner said. “It’s great to take home the Governor’s Cup, especially for our seniors. I couldn’t be more proud of our team.”
