Nahant Fire Department and Partner Agencies Recover Missing Diver

NAHANT — Chief Michael Feinberg reports that the Nahant Fire Department and its partner agencies recovered the body of a diver who went missing this morning south of Nahant.

At approximately 10:25 a.m., Nahant Fire was dispatched to the Town Wharf for a report that a 37-year-old male diver had gone missing. Nahant firefighters worked in cooperation with the Beverly Fire Department, Nahant Police Department, Swampscott Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police and U.S. Coast Guard to conduct a thorough search of the area where the man was last seen.

Beverly Fire Department divers located the unresponsive man in the water shortly before noon.

“I want to thank the Beverly Fire Department divers for their efforts, as well as all of our mutual aid partners for their support this morning,” Chief Feinberg said. “Everyone worked efficiently to locate the victim despite very dangerous conditions on the water, and I commend them for their commitment.”

The incident remains under active investigation by the Essex County District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police.
