Dedham Fire Department to Host Open House During National Fire Prevention Week
DEDHAM — Chief William Spillane is pleased to announce that the Dedham Fire Department will be hosting an open house next week as part of their programming for National Fire Prevention Week.
WHEN:
Saturday, Oct. 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE:
Dedham Fire Department Headquarters, 436 Washington St.
WHAT:
Families and residents are invited to attend this free event where they can meet some of Dedham’s firefighters and learn important fire safety tips.
Participants will learn how to “stop, drop and roll,” how to plan escape routes and how to crawl safely through a smoke-filled room.
Papa Gino’s will be providing free pizza and children’s fire safety coloring sheets at the open house.
“This event allows us to reach out to the community and provide local families with fire safety tips and procedures,” said Chief Spillane. “Our open house allows families to get together and better prepares them to react if a fire does start.”
Adults and children will have the opportunity to view the fire trucks and the equipment that firefighters use every day. Kids will be allowed to sit in the trucks and spray the fire hose.
National Fire Prevention Week is from Oct. 7-13. In a fire, every second counts. It is important for Dedham residents to know what to do if there is a fire. Fire safety education isn’t just for school children.
This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere,” works to educate people about three ways they can reduce the likelihood of having a fire—and how to escape safely if they have one.
