Canton Fire and Police Departments to Commemorate 9/11 Anniversary

CANTON — Fire Chief Charles E. Doody and Police Chief Ken Berkowitz announce that the Canton Fire and Police Departments will commemorate the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks this week.

Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m.

WHERE:

Canton Fire Department headquarters, 99 Revere St.

WHO:

• State Representative William Galvin
• State Senator Walter Timilty
• Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey
• Canton Board of Selectmen Chairman Mark Porter

WHAT:

Canton firefighters, police officers, veterans and community leaders will honor all who perished on 9/11 at New York’s World Trade Center, The Pentagon and in western Pennsylvania.

The ceremony will also pay tribute to the members of the armed forces who have given their lives in the ongoing war on terror.

Immediately following the ceremony, a gathering for the community will take place at the fire station. Refreshments will be provided, and there will be a commemorative viewing in the lobby of a piece of steel that was pulled from the wreckage of the Twin Towers.

“This is always a somber time of year here in Canton as we remember our native son Michael Uliano, who was working in the World Trade Center on the day of the attacks when he was killed,” Chief Doody said. “We use tomorrow to remember all of those who perished that day and remember that their deaths were not in vain.”
