Middleborough Fire and Police Departments Respond to Debris Fire at Junkyard

Bedford Street Closed from Old Center Street to Middleborough Rotary

MIDDLEBOROUGH — Fire Chief Lance Benjamino and Police Chief Joseph Perkins report that the Middleborough Fire and Police Departments are responding to a debris fire at a junkyard and that Bedford Street (Route 18) is currently closed.

Bedford Street is closed from Old Center Street to the Middleborough rotary and will remain closed until the scene is cleared.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., first responders were notified of a fire at Zion’s Auto Parts, 128 Bedford St.

When firefighters arrived, they found a large pile of scrap metal and tires that was on fire. The debris pile is about 100 yards long.

Fire departments from Bridgewater and Lakeville responded to assist.

Due to the thick, heavy smoke from the fire, Middleborough Police closed down a portion of Bedford Street. Drivers are asked to seek alternate routes and avoid the area. Chief Benjamino and Chief Perkins would like to thank residents and commuters in advance for their patience while the fire is being extinguished.

As of 10 a.m. no injuries had been reported.

Further information will be provided at a later time.
