Andover Fire Rescue Responds to Home Fire

ANDOVER — Fire Chief Michael Mansfield reports that Andover Fire Rescue responded to a residential fire this morning.

At 10:09 a.m., Andover firefighters were dispatched to a home at 51 Andover St. for a report of a possible dryer fire, while dispatchers advised the caller and her family members to evacuate.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke showing from the rear of the 1 1/2 story home and could hear smoke alarms sounding inside the home. The fire, which was actively burning in the wall next to the home’s dryer, was brought under control within 10 minutes of firefighters’ arrival on scene.

There was minor smoke and water damage to the home, but no injuries to the occupants of the home or Andover Fire Rescue personnel.

“This mother’s quick thinking and immediate call for help ultimately prevented a tragedy today,” Chief Mansfield. “Her actions also greatly minimized the damage to her home.”

The fire is not considered suspicious, and is believed to have been caused by a dryer malfunction.
