Whitman Fire Department Extinguishes Fire at Laundromat

WHITMAN — Chief Timothy J. Grenno reports that the Whitman Fire Department extinguished a fire at a laundromat early Friday morning.

At approximately 12:26 a.m., the Whitman Fire Department received a report of a fire at Larry’s Laundrette, 261 Washington St.

Upon arrival, smoke could be seen coming from the building. Firefighters entered the building and quickly extinguished the flames.

An initial investigation indicates that the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction in a dryer motor. The fire extended from the dryer to the ceiling and up to the roof line.

The building sustained approximately $25,000 worth of damage.

At the time of the fire, the laundromat was not open and the building was unoccupied. No injuries were reported.

The Hanson and East Bridgewater Fire Departments responded to the scene to assist and the Abington Fire Department covered Whitman’s fire station. The scene was cleared at about 2 a.m.
