Hanson Police and Fire Departments Investigating Fire Now Deemed Suspicious at Vacant Building
HANSON — Police Chief Michael Miksch, Fire Chief Jerome Thompson and the State Fire Marshal’s office report that the 3-alarm fire at a vacant building in Hanson yesterday has been deemed to be suspicious.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and the incident is still under active investigation by Hanson Police and Fire and the State Fire Marshal’s office.
Anyone who has information about the fire is asked to please call Hanson Police at 781-293-4625 or the state Arson Hotline at 1-800-682-9229.
At approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday, the Hanson fire and police departments responded to a fire at 16 Liberty St., on Route 58 near the center of town. The vacant building was formerly JJ’s Pub.
A third alarm was eventually struck and fire departments from numerous surrounding communities came to assist.
The fire was extinguished by about 6 p.m.
Two firefighters were hospitalized with heat-related illness while working to put out the flames.
No further information about the investigation will be released at this time.
