Nahant Fire Department Extinguishes Two-Alarm House Fire

NAHANT — Chief Michael Feinberg reports that the Nahant Fire Department extinguished a two-alarm house fire early this morning.

At approximately 2:15 a.m. on Monday, June 25, Nahant Firefighters were dispatched to 105 Flash Road for a report of a roof fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke showing from the roof area of a 2 1/2-story wood-framed home and began an aggressive attack. After entering the home, firefighters discovered fire in the walls on the second floor and smoke coming from the attic, which was difficult to access, and a second alarm was struck.

Fire crews were able to get the fire under control quickly and cleared the scene by 4:30 a.m. Firefighters from Lynn, Swampscott, Salem and Marblehead provided mutual aid at the scene, and crews from Lynnfield and Saugus provided station coverage during the incident.

There was extensive damage to the second floor and attic area of the home. The sole occupant of the residence, who was awakened by the lightning strike, was able to escape the house safely and is staying with neighbors and family until repairs are completed. There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident.

The cause of the fire was determined to be due to a lightning strike.
