Taunton Police Investigating Alleged Assault of Police Officer During Arrest

TAUNTON — Chief Edward Walsh reports that the Taunton Police Department is investigating an incident where a suspect allegedly assaulted a police officer while being placed under arrest Thursday afternoon.

The incident took place around noon on Thursday, June 21, in the area of Hart’s Four Corners in Taunton, and involved a Dighton Police officer who was working a detail in Taunton at the time.

The department has been made aware of a video that was taken during the course of the officer attempting to place the suspect in custody, while the suspect was being aggressive and combative.

An initial review of the video and the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident indicates that the use of force falls within the parameters of policy and training based on the subject’s actions. However, a full investigation is being conducted.

Due to the Domestic Violence Act of 2014 the department is unable to comment further about the arrest.
