Whitman Police and Fire Respond to Rollover Crash Early Monday Morning

WHITMAN — Fire Chief Timothy J. Grenno and Police Chief Scott D. Benton report that a driver was injured when the truck he was driving collided with a utility pole and rolled over onto its side early Monday morning in Whitman.

At approximately 1 a.m., rescuers responded to 265 Winter St. for a report of a crash.

When police and firefighters arrived, they found that the Ford pickup truck had come to rest on its side on the front lawn of a Winter Street home.

The driver, a Hanson man who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was trapped inside.

Firefighters had to use a hydraulic extrication tool and inflatable airbags in order to free the man. It took about 20 minutes for the man to be safely extricated.

He was taken by ambulance to South Shore Hospital with serious injuries. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

National Grid responded to the scene to repair the damaged utility pole and power lines.

Police officers blocked the road while the crash was being investigated. Winter Street was reopened at approximately 2:45 a.m.
