Exeter High School Students Excel in National Spanish Examination

EXETER — Principal Michael Monahan is pleased to announce that several students excelled on the 2018 National Spanish Examinations earlier this spring.

Between March 28 and April 6, dozens of EHS students in Honors 2, 3, 4, Advanced Placement and College Prep 4 level Spanish earned national recognition for their performance on the exam.

Sophomores Emma Buhot-Launay and Carol Diaz, and senior Julia Work, earned gold medals for their success on the multi-part exam, which assesses students’ understanding of Spanish vocabulary and grammar, as well as their reading and listening comprehension.

In addition to the three gold medals, 21 EHS students earned silver, 17 earned bronze and 34 earned honorable mentions on the exam.

“This exam is an excellent way for students to demonstrate their knowledge and develop a sense of their strengths and the ways they can improve their Spanish skills,” Principal Monahan said. “I’m proud of all of our students’ work, and grateful for the constant effort by our Spanish teachers that made their success possible.”

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

EHS students have a long history of high achievement on these exams and were taught by Spanish teachers, Katherine LaPia, Nicole Vernon, Samuel Heath, Kathleen Bean, Jennifer Delorie and Christopher Donovan.
