Reading Police to Join Middlesex Sheriff for Discussion on Fraud Prevention

READING — Chief Mark D. Segalla is pleased to announce that the Reading Police Department will join Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian for a community outreach event focused on protecting residents from fraud.

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, along with Reading Police and the Reading Council on Aging, will host Law Enforcement And Residents Networking (L.E.A.R.N.) at the Pleasant Street Center on Monday, June 4, at 12:15 p.m.

L.E.A.R.N. is an initiative of the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office focused on educating and informing the public through collaboration, and engagement in dialogue around public safety matters.

The initiative launched in April 2016 and is primarily focused on raising awareness of fraud and scams that commonly target senior citizens. L.E.A.R.N. forums also serve as an opportunity for police to communicate directly with members of the community.

The event will also feature an informational presentation about the work that the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office does, and the resources it has available for residents.

“We want residents to be well informed about the ways that scammers try to take advantage of people,” Chief Segalla said. “I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to meet Sheriff Koutoujian and I, and learn about how they can best protect themselves.”
