Town of Winthrop Announces Hiring of New Interim Town Manager
WINTHROP– The Town of Winthrop is pleased to announce that David G. Cressman will serve as the town manager on an interim basis.
Cressman retired in March following a distinguished 30-year career in government administration and leadership. He served as the town of Tewksbury’s inaugural town manager from 1988 through 2009 before moving on to become the town of Dartmouth’s town administrator until his retirement.
“I look forward to assisting the Winthrop Town Council, employees and residents during this period of transition,” Cressman said.
During his career, Cressman oversaw the introduction of a variety of innovative technologies that streamlined town operations — Tewksbury was among the first towns to install radio transmitted water meter reading devices, and pioneered the use of a vehicle locator system.
Cressman also placed an emphasis on economic development and capital improvements, including a new police station, fire station, library, elementary school and renovations to other town assets in Tewksbury, and guided similar projects in Dartmouth.
During his tenure, Dartmouth emerged as one of the commonwealth’s leading solar energy producers, earning almost $4 million in net revenues from 2013-2017.
“David is a uniquely accomplished individual, and I’m confident he will provide excellent leadership for town of Winthrop,” Town Council President Ronald Vecchia said.
Cressman will serve as the interim town manager until the town council identifies a full-time replacement.
