Andover Fire Rescue Responds to Crash and Vehicle Fire on I-495

ANDOVER — Fire Chief Michael Mansfield reports that Andover Fire Rescue responded to a crash on Interstate 495 that resulted in a vehicle catching fire this afternoon.

At 12:19 p.m., Andover Fire Rescue was dispatched to Interstate 495 northbound near exit 40 for a report of a crash. Upon arrival, firefighters located an overturned Toyota pickup truck in the left travel lane and a Kia hatchback burning on a nearby exit ramp.

Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames and provide aid to the individuals involved in the crash. A preliminary investigation by Massachusetts State Police indicated that the Kia was cut off by another motorist before striking the pickup truck, causing the truck to roll over. The Kia then caught fire following the collision.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to an area hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

The crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police.
