GLOUCESTER — Chief Eric Smith reports that the Gloucester Fire Department responded to a house fire this afternoon.

At approximately 5:13 p.m., Gloucester Firefighters were dispatched to 1 Babson Ct. for a report of a fire. Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames burning through the roof and called for a second alarm.

Firefighters conducted an aggressive attack to extinguish the fire, bringing it under control by 5:40 p.m. One resident was home when the fire started, but there were no injuries to residents. A firefighter did suffer a minor injury.

Approximately six residents were displaced as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and the extent of the damage is not yet known. The Rockport, Manchester, Essex, Ipswich, Beverly and Hamilton Fire Departments provided mutual aid throughout the incident.

“I am proud of the work of our firefighters did today in extinguishing this fire,” Chief Smith said. “I am also grateful for our neighboring fire departments and their support both on scene and in ensuring the rest of the city was protected during this incident.”
