Greater Lawrence Tech Senior Dianny Lora Reyes Earns School’s Outstanding Vocational Technical Student Award

ANDOVER — Superintendent John Lavoie is pleased to announce that senior Dianny Lora Reyes, of Lawrence, earned Greater Lawrence Technical School’s Outstanding Vocational Technical Student award.

The annual award is sponsored by the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators and recognizes students who excel scholastically and in their technical area of study. Students are honored for making significant contributions to their school district and, in turn, vocational technical education as a whole in the state.

Each year, superintendents designate one student in their district to receive the award.

After four years, Reyes is the valedictorian of her class with a current GPA or 4.37. Following graduation, she will attend the University of Massachusetts, Amherst where she will major in biology with plans to one day attend medical school.

Reyes has excelled within the GLTS Health Career Program and has performed well in honors courses, Advanced Placement English and a dual enrollment course at Northern Essex Community College. In addition, she’s earned the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship and a Dell Foundation Scholarship during her time at GLTS.

MAVA members recognized Reyes and two dozen of her peers from vocational-technical high schools in Massachusetts during an awards dinner on April 12 at Mechanics Hall in Worcester.

“Dianny has been a fantastic student and member of the GLTS community, and she is extremely deserving of this honor,” Superintendent Lavoie said. “She’s an excellent role model for her fellow students, both through her success in the classroom and her genuine, lasting commitment to helping those in need.”

Reyes is involved in a variety of ways outside the classroom, including as secretary of the National Honor Society. Through her community service hours, she has helped to raise $1,500 for the Salvation Army, Elder Care, and Meals on Wheels of Massachusetts. She was selected to serve as a CNA on a Medical Corps Reserve Team to assist in disaster relief, and as a junior, she was awarded the Boston College Book Award for her leadership, community service and academic performance. She has also been a Reggie Leader and Peer Mentor, providing support to younger students.
