Christina Jo DiCalogero Appointed as Hoover Elementary School Principal

MELROSE — Superintendent Cyndy Taymore is pleased to announce Christina Jo DiCalogero has been appointed as the new Hoover Elementary School Principal.

DiCalogero will step into the role on July 1.

She comes to Melrose from Salem Public Schools, where she’s served as assistant principal at the Horace Mann Laboratory School since 2014.

DiCalogero began her career in education at the Chelsea Public Schools in 2001. Since then, she’s served as a fifth grade teacher, a math coach and instructional coach who trained teachers in research-based literacy practices. She was also the lead member on the District Curriculum Instructional Team, organizing all units for math and English Language Arts for kindergarten through eighth grade, and a lead mentor teacher focused on creating and implementing the district’s mentoring action plan.

In the fall of 2017, former Hoover School Principal Jenny Corduck transferred to the Lincoln Elementary School, where she currently serves as principal. Carol Weldin, who was the Student Services Facilitator at the Lincoln School, stepped in as the interim Hoover School principal until a permanent replacement for Corduck was found.

School officials began the search process in December and narrowed the pool of applicants to three final candidates. Following site visits and a recommendation from the search committee, Superintendent Taymore selected DiCalogero to be the Hoover School’s next principal.

“Christina comes to us with more than 15 years of experience in public education,” Superintendent Taymore said. “As an educator, she holds strong beliefs that all students are entitled to a high quality education that ​fosters​ each student’s academic and social emotional growth​.​ Her most recent leadership position in Salem and her mentoring work in the Chelsea Public Schools make her the ideal person to lead the Hoover School.”

Prior to her official start date, DiCalogero plans to begin meeting with families and staff throughout the spring to determine priorities and needs of the school moving forward.

DiCalogero holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Suffolk University, a master’s degree in elementary education from Salem State University and a certificate of advanced graduate studies in educational leadership from Salem State University.
